However, residents like Jill Davies, whose basement suite experienced sewage backup due to the lift station replacement, are left wondering if the delays are an excuse for poor planning.
"There's been so much work needed after the backup," Davies says. "It feels like the city is passing the buck and not taking full responsibility for the issues caused by this project."
The city's spokesperson, Colleen Mycroft, acknowledges the challenges and assures residents that odor-control measures are being tested and refined. However, the process is expected to take several more weeks, and if these initial measures fail, additional options could take months to implement.
"We understand the frustration and are doing our best to mitigate the issues," Mycroft says. "But these things take time, and we want to ensure the solutions are effective and long-lasting."
As the project drags on, residents are left wondering when they'll get their neighborhood back. The large fencing and closed bike lane are constant reminders of the disruption, and the promise of vinyl imagery wrapping the kiosks feels like a superficial solution to a deeper problem.
"It's not just about the aesthetics," Morrit says. "It's about the impact this project has had on our daily lives and the lack of consideration shown by the city. We feel forgotten and ignored."
