The young power-speed sensation, Do-Yeong Kim, became the youngest player in KBO history to achieve a 30/30 feat. On a sunny Tuesday afternoon, he hit his second home run in two days against the Orix Buffaloes. As he rounded third base, he proudly displayed the 'M' gesture, and his teammates in the dugout joined in, creating a fun and festive atmosphere. A few innings later, another young slugger, Hyun-min Ahn, unleashed a massive home run into left field, replicating the celebration as he rounded the bases.
The origin of this unique celebration can be traced back to MLB players Jahmai Jones and Shay Whitcomb. World Baseball Classic photographer Daniel Shirey spotted them showcasing the 'M' gesture to their teammates before the game. The Korean team's home run barrage, including Whitcomb's impressive blast, secured an 8-5 victory over the Buffaloes.
Manager Ji-Hyun Ryu expressed satisfaction after the game, stating, 'We've accomplished everything we aimed to achieve in these exhibition games. Now, we're fully prepared for the real competition in Tokyo. We intend to showcase the best of Korean baseball to the world.'
