Jurassic Park Fan Builds Dream Jeep! DIY Movie Car Replica (2026)

Imagine a childhood dream roaring to life! For Zakary Weyer, that dream wasn't just about dinosaurs; it was about the iconic vehicles that brought Jurassic Park to life. His passion began before he was even born, sparked by his parents' cinema visit while his mother was pregnant. Now, years later, he's turned that early fascination into a real-world adventure: a meticulously crafted Jurassic Park Jeep.

"It's always been a dream of mine, since I was a kid, to have one of these," Zakary shared. But how did he pull it off?

It took some time to find the right car, and while it's not a perfect replica, Zakary's dedication shines through. He cleverly used various skills he'd picked up over time. "I've done a few different professions in my time and sort of picked up a lot of different skills that I needed," he explained. "So welding and the metal bending and electrical work for the lighting and all that kind of stuff. [I] just picked it up over the years." He added that there's always something to tweak and improve.

A T-Rex-Sized Phenomenon

Jurassic Park, which premiered in 1993, quickly became a box office giant, only to be surpassed five years later. It's more than just a movie; it's a cultural cornerstone for generations, spawning six sequels, numerous books, TV shows, and video games. While the dinosaurs are the stars, the vehicles play an unforgettable role. Remember the awe-inspiring moment when Dr. Grant and Dr. Sattler watched the Brachiosaurus from a Jeep? Or the heart-stopping scene when the Tyrannosaurus Rex attacks the tour cars?

Zakary's Jeep is no longer a daily driver, but it still turns heads. "Every time I park somewhere basically I get people coming up asking for photos," he says. He even recounted a humorous incident where someone nearly crashed their bike while gawking at the vehicle!

Fandom Finds a Way

There's a global community dedicated to recreating these iconic cars. Byron Phillips, from the Australian branch of the Jurassic Park Motor Pool, shared, "We drive all around Australia ... doing events and charity work as well." For Byron, it's about creating smiles and memories. He loves the thrill of being recognized, but there's a deeper meaning behind his dedication. "My son has a disability so a big part of the reason that I went with the Jurassic Jeep is because he can say 'Jeep' and 'dinosaur'," he explained. "And so whenever I drive around town, he knows where I am. So it takes away the anxiety of 'where's Dad?'"

Unlike Zakary, Byron started with zero mechanical knowledge. He relied on the Motor Pool's online resources and the advice of fellow enthusiasts. "There's an online resource and a group where they can compare notes and give guidance on certain parts of the Jeeps," he said. "It's always there. And people learn from each other. They learn from their mistakes. There's been many mistakes made."

From the Road to the Big Screen

In 2024, several Jurassic Park Motor Pool cars even made it to the big screen! Amateur filmmakers in regional Victoria released a shot-for-shot remake of the original film. John Roebuck, the director of Jurassic Park: Castlemaine Redux, highlighted the immense production value the vehicles brought. "It definitely felt like it was a level up in terms of production value," he said. He even got to outrun a T-rex in one of the Jeeps, playing the role of game hunter Robert Muldoon.

'Not as Hard as You Think'

Zakary Weyer calls building his Jeep a "life changer." And the cost? Surprisingly affordable. The Jeep itself cost around $10,000, with an additional $2,000 for the Jurassic Park modifications. His message to anyone dreaming of recreating their favorite movie vehicle is simple: "Just do it. It's actually not as hard as you think once you get started." He suggests starting small, like painting the wheels.
