The former security chief of the Vice President, Colonel Raymund Dante P. Lachica, has vehemently denied any involvement with Ramil Madriaga, a man who has emerged as a key figure in an alleged cash-for-influence scandal. Lachica, a seasoned officer in the Philippine Army, has refuted claims that he knew or worked with Madriaga, emphasizing that his career has been guided by strict protocols and institutional integrity.
In a statement, Lachica declared, 'I categorically state that I do not know Mr. Madriaga. I have never had any personal or professional dealings with him.' He further dismissed suggestions that he was associated with, recommended, or worked alongside Madriaga in any capacity, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in his career.
The controversy stems from Madriaga's sworn affidavit, where he alleges delivering cash on orders from Vice President Sara Duterte and implicating Lachica in the distribution of duffle bags filled with money. However, Lachica strongly contests these allegations, asserting that they are devoid of factual basis.
Madriaga's claims also extend to the funding of Vice President Sara Duterte's 2022 campaign, alleging that drug dealers and Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs) provided financial support through the Inday Sara Duterte Is My President (ISIP) movement. These assertions have not been independently verified.
The situation has led to a re-evaluation of Lachica's role, as he was reassigned from the Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG) to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Security and Protection Group (AFPSPG) effective October 4. The Office of the Vice President has yet to respond to Madriaga's allegations, leaving the public and media to await further developments in this complex and controversial matter.
